Défilé

Défilé accessories are being distributed in classes May 8-20.  NO extra items have been ordered, so please take care that children do not play with them prior to concert time.  You must bring your child's accessory with you to Carmel High School.  All undistributed accessories will be brought to the theatre and your child will receive theirs at check-in time

First of all, a BIG THANK YOU to all of the students who have volunteered their time to assist in the younger classes as they prepare for Défilé.  I know I speak for all of the teachers by saying that we are incredibly grateful for all the help and we know that our young dancers are going to be successful due in large part to your kids' participation in the Helper Program!

Please remind your kids that the mandatory helper meeting is happening this Saturday.  There are two time slots available: 11:15-12:00 or 1:30-2:15.  Both meetings will take place in Studio 2 with Ms. Stacy Keller.  If your child is unsure of which time slot they originally chose or would simply prefer to attend the alternate time, you do not need to do anything other than show up!  All helpers and class chaperones are required to attend, even if they will not be performing on stage with their assigned class.

During the meeting, Ms. Stacy will review the logistics and responsibilities involved for Défilé weekend.  In addition, she will address dress code and behavior expectations.  For students who are performing on stage with their assigned classes, Ms. Stacy will ask them to show the choreography that has been taught, ensuring that everyone is prepared for the concert and ready to assist the young dancers.  She will also leave time for questions at the end.

If you have any concerns or questions before Saturday, please feel free to reach out to me via email.   Thank you!  ...Samantha Robison

WHAT IS DÉFILÉ ?

We like to think of Défilé as a "concert-graduation".  It gives our students an opportunity to perform on the stage in a comfortable situation without hours of rehearsal and tons of pressure.  Parents can witness the progress their student has made over the year.  It isn't a big spectacle with fancy costumes and sets.  Dancenter North borrowed this concept from the Paris Opera Ballet School who present a Défilé (translation: parade) each year at the end of their season.

WHEN IS DÉFILÉ ?

Students are presented on stage at Carmel High School Auditorium at the end of the Spring session in May.  The 2017 concerts will be held May 27-28.  Please see the concert schedule listed above.

WHO PARTICIPATES?

All students in classes starting with our Intro to Pre-Ballet classes up through our graduating 8th graders participate in Défilé.  High School students and adults do not participate.

HOW MUCH REHEARSAL CAN WE EXPECT?

Dancenter North believes that class time should be spent developing technique.  For that reason, practice for Défilé is kept at a minimum and rehearsed only during a small fraction of class time.

WHAT IS THE PRODUCTION FEE FOR?

The fee pays for the supplement to the student's apparel for the occasion.  Our staff works to find an apporpriate accessory or costume piece for each class and each student.  It is organized, packaged, and delivered to each student the week prior to performances.
